Fried Green Tomorrows: Juliette, GA Lives

A documentary about how a town has turned
from dust. A sole street in a rural neighborhood
20 miles North of Macon gets a permanent
Hollywood makeover.

From the success of the movie that was filmed in
Juliette, GA, Fried Green Tomatoes turned a
kudzuu-swallowed ghost town into the new tourist
delight of the south. A population of 4 in 1991, this tiny
mecca now boasts a weekly visitation of 500 people
coming to see The Whistle Stop Cafe and to taste the
movie itself; Fried Green Tomatoes.

Please visit here again for updates/pictures on the
documentary. And please visit Juliette in person

Old Updates

February-March

Our 3-day shootout ended up ok. A dozen of us
huddled at (Whistle Stop owner) Elizabeth's house
for the night
s. She gave till she gave out.
Unfortunately, some of our actors bailed,
and some of our other scenes had to be cancelled
too, and the other times we just ran out of light.
With what we have, it's time to let the editor eat.
This site will probably be quiet for awhile. In the
meantime please visit the grand re-opening of
the best Fried fan site out there:

AmyKathryn, Felix, Fannie

I got you the pictures before '05. Now, can we
get Fannie to Juliette before '06?

Fannie, Come to Juliette ! ! !

AmyKJ, and I, got to meet the author of Fried Green Tomatoes
during a signing of her new book,
A Redbird Christmas. I'll have pictures from that
after I shoot the other 24 exposures (yeah, right, check
back '05). She was very super cordial and I tried to
guilt her to go back to the town she gave the
breath of life to. Fannie, your children await
you. Come have a book signing, some fried green
tomatoes, and let's get interviewed.

November-December

We got in one good shooting day on the Senoia, GA
trestle where Buddy met his fate(tality) . We were
unfinished, though, as we were trying to get
to Juliette for their Green Tomatoe festival. So,
we'll have to go back. Meanwhile, click
here for pictures from that day

October

We are shooting Ruth and Young Idgie lookalikes
on the Juliette water bridge and at the Senoia trestle

Welcome to Carolyn Keims. She is our wardrobe'r and
is already doing a fantastic job and the outfits are
just rolling in.

Kathy Bates Sighting?

Is Evelyn Couch going to be in Juliette?
While KB is working on the HBO movie Warm Springs
in GA, we hope she'll find the time to visit the sight of
her all time favorite movie. Kathy, don't come on
Mondays, the Whistle Stop is closed.

things are on hold
. Please send all

July, part iv
We want to welcome our composer.
Glenn Morrissette, out of Durham, North Carolina will score the music for the documentary. Glenn's music abilities are very diverse and he has a symphonic sound that will have to be heard over the juliette trains! click here for his web site.

Good news for Danny means postponement for us.
He was recently cast to play Bill Johnson in
Walk the Line, the Johnny Cash movie.
We'll get him to Juliette soon, though.

Meanwhile, the docu-trailer is ready. It's 3 ½
minutes (may take a little time to download).

then save file to your computer
(The music used is temprorary)

May, 2004
The intro footage to the documentary was completed.
We took a little trip North and finally got the beginning
out of the way. Also, now that Danny has gotten the
Oscar glory out of his system we can get to
work on collecting the remaining footage.

March, 2004
The January visit went great. We interviewed all
shopkeepers
except for the Whistle Stop. We stumbled
upon a Buddy Jr. that day and incorporated
him into our Smokey-on-the-tracks scene.

The crew of Emmy/Amy/Clay were on top
of their game (even with Clay's toothache). We
arrived at dark and left at dark.

We will soon return for more scenarios and to
get the WSC interviews. We're keeping Elizabeth
in our prayers as her father passed away
and her son left for Kuwait.

We've added another FGT enthusiast to the
project. Erin Lillis who is an entertainment assistant in L.A. and has her own FGT web site;
http://hometown.aol.com/AbsolutEBL, has
graciously jumped on board to help out. Besides having a BA in film, she actually interned with FGT director John Avnet and producer Jordan Kerner.

Preproduction is still in progress and we're hoping to gather more footage and begin interviews in August. Stay tuned or email neillien@hotmail.com

May 24, 2003
The Jennifer Blackburn Benefit was an
uplifting and successful day.
Jennifer is to have 3 surgeries in New
York on a brain tumor. The town supported
her with an all day affair of a yard
sale, bake sale, and auction. Q106
of Macon was there and the event
was mentioned on Atlanta TV.

Thanks to everyone in Juliette for the gracious reception upon my first official visit. I am really anxious to get this project going. I've been able to contact some of the FGT crew who are in L.A. and this will bring some great interviews and even more contacts.

I'll hopefully see all of you this weekend as I come down for East Juliette's The Village homecoming.
